Biography
Alvise Dabalà is a PhD student at the Mathematical Marine Ecology Lab and the Applied Marine Biogeography Lab at The University of Queensland, supervised by Prof. Anthony Richardson, Prof. Daniel Dunn and Prof. Catherine Lovelock. He is also co-supervised by Prof. Tom Van der Stocken and Prof. Farid Dahdouh-Guebas at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
His research focuses on developing climate-smart and connected spatial prioritizations for mangrove conservation, aiming to safeguard mangrove biodiversity and the ecosystem services they provide.
Alvise holds an Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree in Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems (TROPIMUNDO). During his master’s thesis, he conducted a global analysis to identify priority areas for mangrove conservation that maximise ecosystem services (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-023-41333-3).
Before beginning his PhD at The University of Queensland, he contributed to the iAtlantic project (https://www.iatlantic.eu/), funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, where he developed spatial prioritisations for the conservation of the Atlantic Ocean at the University of the Azores.
